What does a weather recon plane look like? 42-93881 - 08/28/2003 05:18:38 AM
[font "Arial"]My father, Arthur Mattson was in the 29th BG, 43rd BS and his military occupation was an airplane mechanic. He was assigned to crew chief James F. Scott. The plane number was #42-93881 and the group # was # 0-99. The plane was used for weather recon. of Japan prior to a mission to Japan. James F Scott the crew chief and I have the Airplane commander (Robt. Green) and the Navigator (Charney). Thanks [signature]

Re: Sparky, so 73rd after 314th? - 08/28/2003 12:33:33 PM
Thanks Sparky. You mean it went to the 73rd after being in the 314th wing? Do you know how I can contact these men who might have known my father? What is a weather strike, just a weather flight? Kind regards, Anna Marie [signature]

Re: [Sparky] Sparky, so 73rd after 314th? - 09/02/2003 02:13:47 PM
Hi Sparky, Now I am really confused. Joe, the historian from the 29th BG stated that according to his records my father Arthur Mattson from the 29th BG 314th wing was attached to this plane 42-93881 which you said was never attacted to the 314th wing. Could you please help clear up this confusion or maybe this is not the right plane number? Thanks, Kind regards, Anna Marie [signature]

Perhaps 42-24881 instead of 42-93881??? - 09/10/2003 01:06:16 AM
[font "Arial"]Dear Sparky, [font "Arial"] Joe sent me another plane number that perhaps could be the one my father Arthur Mattson worked on in the 29th. Do you think this is the right one according to your records? This is what Joe sent: [font "Arial"] [font "Arial"]In a a Field order of a mission by one our Planes, the 43rd BS the plane # is listed as 42-93881, yet all of the BS records list the plane as 42-24881. Rather than doing a large search I have sent you the names of some of the crew members so that you may contact them and get the correct answer. [font "Arial"]I have listed the volume (7) and the document number so go further and you will find more flights of our plane. [font "Arial"] [font "Arial"]Kind regards, [font "Arial"] [font "Arial"]Anna Marie [font "Arial"] [font "Arial"] [signature]

What special equipment was carried aboard that was above and beyond a typical B-29? [signature]
