Colin, My father was in the 11 TH BG H and the 42 Squadron from 1940 until the end of the war in 1945. I have found few former 11 BG H individuals on this site. Many of their planes went down at sea. On February 1, 1943 their last four B-17s went out on a mission and only one returned. It crash landed. All the others went down in the sea and the crews were never buried or recovered. At one time they had over 26 bombers and it came down to the last four. That is a sad fact of the Pacific War. I have made contact with some of the family members of the Original 42 Sq., All their relatives died in battle and were lost at sea too. My father survived and continued to serve and I have made contact with some of the replacements from 1943 he helped train to go back into the Pacific. In Europe they have some idea where many of the men died and are buried. Even the Germans kept records. But having a loved one serve in the Pacific in the Air Corp in World War II you usually find a memorial stone is all there is left of a loved ones existence. I know that those who lost loved ones in the early days have never forgotten and never will forget those who gave their all. Thank God you have not forgotten your loved one either. God bless your efforts to find his record of duty to America. Surely he is a hero who gave his all for all of us.

Thanks to all that have replied. I have spoken with Phil a few years back and sadly he was not able to pass on any info on Walter. As Walter was only with the 11th BG for a short period,I guess there is not much details to be found. Yes Terry that is my Grandfathers details and I do have a picture of the tablet in Hawaii. Thanks again all for the information provided. Cheers Colin
