Seekig any information on Wade, Kenneth S or last name , Giannini, both known to have been flying on 27 Dec 42, P-39, of the (91FS and 92FS, leave England for Africa, en- route due to fuel shortage 5 planes land in Portugal and one in Tangiers all are interned, pilots becoming POW including Lt Col Kenneth S Wade, CO of the Group. Giannini, was forced to land in the Spanish Protectorate of Morocco, in Tánger, because of a sudden fuel shortage. The aircraft was intact and it was immediately interned (as the pilot). On 23 January 1943, the aircraft was still in Tánger but it soon ferried by the Spanish pilot F. Tordesillas to the Tablada airfield and from there to Barajas, in Madrid. It was still there in March 1945, in full flying condition Thanks for any help Rob

Hello again from Colorado: My uncle Bub once told me that those pilots were sent onto Tunisia and I think he said Wade and/or the others had to fly tail-end-charlie for the duration of the tour of duty. Ending the tour in Italy. The feeling in the group was that these guys fened(sp?) engine problems when they were closest to Lisbon. Hoping they'd be interned for the duration. They were handed over to the Brits' at Gibralter. Who expedited them to Thelepte. Cheers, Al
