Thanks Mark, I appreciate the clarification.....too many persons seperate the two.

As an aside, ( I, may have posted this before ).......I proposed at one time, that the 15th AAF shoulder patch have two half circles added to the patch...the top would say "ADRIATIC FISH KILLERS" and the lower would say...."WE ALSO FLEW", in reference to the dual
designation of both the ETO and MTO.      (VBG)

I agree with Steven that this has evolved into an interesting thread,
however we've strayed somewhat from the original premise;

     'First of the Eighth' vs. 'First of the Heavies'

Although all European combat operations shared a common campaign
ribbon, there still remains a distinction in all official communications
defining the EAME verses the ETO.

It would appear that the simplest course of action would be to avoid
any reference to aircraft type altogether and simply state the organization,
I.E. the Eighth USAAF.

The first AAF Liberator bombing raid in the Pacific took place on 17 Jan 1942. Planes were US LB-30s repossessed from the British contract and flown to Java by 7thBG crews under Project X.
