Villacoublay June 26, 1943 - 01/20/2008 10:10:25 AM
Could someone tell me the primary target at Villacoublay for this mission?  I beleive the Luftwaffe were there but not sure which groups.  Also, I believe there were numerous bomb groups involved in this raid besides the 384th as well as the fighter groups that gave protection (as far as they could) if anyone knows these groups as well.

Thank you,
Brian

Brian,

Found 91st, 92nd and 303rd BG as well.  There must have been more.

Fighter cover: 4th and 56th FG (lost 5 P-47s) to start with...

Regards,

Leendert

Thanks Leendert.  Going over my past posts I realized that someone was kind enough to translate a French report detailing the raid.  I forget who so i cannot give them their due credit.
This report lists the 91st, 303rd, 379th and 384th BG and the 4th, 56th FG as escorts.  It also mentions the 7th Photo Group 42-13109 (F-5 Lightning) and 3rd Photo Group.
Would this mean there should be photos of the raid available somewhere?

Thanks Lucky.  Could you help me out a little bit though?
When you say 'effective' what exactly does that mean? Why do some BG's not have a 'Target Dropped On' location?

Effective means that bombs were dropped on target.  The others either took the bombs back to base or jettisoned them later.

I thought so thanks.  Just hoping that 384th might have had some hits since they lost the 5 bombers that day.

Brian-
Book - As Briefed confirms that the 384th BG did not
Bomb Villacoublay. Clouds obscured the Field.
At this time , Pre Radar , Groups ordered not to Bomb
if Target obscured to prevent Civilian Casualties in
Occupied Countries.
