Usa fighter crashed aroun Salerno summer 1943. Some idea?

This aircraft was crashed at Acerno, 25 km south east of Salerno in Summer 1943 but may be also september 1943. This aircraft was shot down from a german fighter and the pilot reported killed in the crash. Some idea about this aircraft? Thanks!

The numbers on pump "40590 A" and "...3637..." give you some idea? The pump appear to be of a Allison engine. So we find a P-38 or A-36 crash site. Do you have informations about P-38 or A-36 crashed south of Salerno in summer of 1943? The pilot was KIA. I believe no other USA fighters can go to Salerno area from Sicily in that time.

I think the plane might also have been another Allison engined A/C, the P-40.

There were P-40s flying over the Italian mainland after late August.  Most were P-40F or L models that had Merlin engines though.  The 57th Fighter Group had some P-40K models at that time that did have the allison engine.  Good luck.
