Ug!! I have every but! - 07/10/2007 06:05:28 PM
Hi all,

I'm doing some research on a MIA named Major Wirt E. Thompson Jr
Service # 0-425939
317th Troop Carrier Squadron, II Air Command

Would anyone happen to know or could help me track down his planes MACR #??

Thanks

Thanks Mike, but all I need is the MACR number.

I got Wirt E. Thompson, service number and unit from www.abmc.gov , his date of loss and some details of his mission from Soldiers of Misfortune, ISBN 0-380-72144-9  page 112.
Armed with that I tried searching the MACR database.
Searched database for loss under Squadron 317 with the date of loss Dec 04 1944, nothing.

If I can just find the MACR then I can get a free copy of the file.

Hello Leondus,

You have by now most probably got the MACR and know the details of the crash of the C-47.
But just in case -
MACR number is 10394 a/c serial number was 43-15821.
Crew I beleive were
Maj. Wirt E. Thompson, Dorsey W F Beauchamp, William S. Weaver and William Weil. they were taking off from Myitkyina, Burma.
Unfortunately the names of any passengers/wounded are not given.
Could have been British troops.
Details from "Footnote"

My name is Bryce Hudnall.  Wirt was the sister of my mother’s mother.  I’d like to chat with you about your post on ArmyAirForces.com.

Shoot me an email when you have a chance.   I promise I’m not some crazy conspiracy theorist, but over the course of the last year my research has led me to seriously doubt the official story behind Major Thompson’s disappearance.

Look forward to hearing from you,
