I wish to pay tribute to David Nelson a former member of the 61st TCG 53rd squadron who passed away the evening before last outside Cleveland, Ohio. Though I did not know him well I had the honor of knowing him for a short period of time through unusual circumstanctances. Some time ago I had asked about film taken by a Lt. Nelson during Operation Market Garden that captured my father's plane being shot down. This led to a long hunt for Lt. Nelson; a needle in a haystack search. Through the efforts of a number of dedicated people David Nelson was located and he in turn perservered in finding the long sought after film he took from the air during three days from a C-47. We developed a fine friendship and he was a great person. I will sorely miss him as he reminded me so of my Dad. Though I never met him in person, through the kindness of his daughter Debbie we corresponded regularly via emails and I spoke with him on the telephone. I feel very sad at this unexpected loss. He was a great patriot. God bless both Mr. Nelson and his family. I'll never be a be able to thank him enough for his having searched high and low for that film. I'll always be grateful for the service of these great men to our country.
