Transport Pilot Richard H. Claeys

I am researching the life of Richard H. Claeys, who served in the USAAF from May 1943 to August 19, 1946. See attached photo. Between May 1943 and July 1944 he flew transports out of the UK. One of his dental records from 1943 listed him as serving with the 87th Air Transport Squadron. Assuming that is the same as the 87th Troop Carrier Squadron, I am writing this forum for any information, rememberances, etc. Claeys trained as an RCAF volunteer from late 1941 to 1942. Then trained in the UK until he was discharged to join the USAAF. In July 1944 he transfered to the 368th Bomb Sq. of the 306th Bomber Group, where he flew 71 missions by the time the war ended. He was one of the first casualties of the "Cold War", when his C-47 transport was shot down over Yugoslavia on August 19, 1946. If anyone is interested in info which I have been given, please let me know. Tom Watson [image]local://upfiles/12362/D413418878AD46CBAFE13408DB1A13B2.jpg[/image]
