The strange case of Delectable Doris - 07/03/2008 02:22:34 AM
Hello, i need more information on a strange case: Looking for informations on a 98th BG plane (B-24 serial 42-78600 ''Delectable Doris'') i have found that she was listed as "Shot down by AAA on 8th April 1945 over North Africa".

How is possible? Was not the North Africa in allied hands on this date? and what the hell she was doing in north africa? Thanks in advance
Sandor

42-78600 was in fact "Kathryn Anne". It DID make an emergency landing at Dubendorf, Switzerland on 8 April 1945. I have a VIDEO made from a Swiss documentary showing it landing and shots of the damage. All the crew survived, however the aircraft did not. It was salvaged by the Swiss and Americans from Burtonwood, England after the end of the war.

I don't know the S/N  of "DELECTABLE DORIS", but have a photo of me beside it at the 50th annaversary reunion of the B-24s at Fort Worth, TX. in 1989. The last time I saw it was at WEEKS Museum in Lake City FL. a few years ago. The name and nose art had been changed though. Can't remember the current name.
