The 'Swoose' Patch - 02/08/2008 04:38:33 PM
If anyone has any idea what that item hanging from the
Swoose's neck is supposed to be, I'd sure like to hear from you.

Mike,

The first image does resemble a fish somewhat but check out the
additional attachment. This is another, older patch, which also has
something hanging from the neck but the configuration is different.

I'm developing the art work for this unit now but this piece of the
design has me stumped.

Gentlemen:
I was told that 'attachment' around the neck of the Swoose was a bombsight.  I cannot confirm this positively but a couple of the veterans have told me that and since it really didn't matter to me at the time, I took their word for it.

That's all I know about it.

Joel,

After reading your feedback I took another very close look at the image
of an original 'Swoose' design as applied to the side of a B-17. I then
pulled up an right profile view of a Norden Bomb Sight and compared
this against my 'Swoose' photo and it suddenly became clear just what
the original artist was trying to convey, it is indeed a bomb sight.

Thanks for helping clear this matter up.

Bob
