The Door Is Wide Open

Contacted this morning by an 89 year old former member of the 452nd.  He shared the great news he was approved the Purple Heart for wounds incurred while in captivity.

Great news.  Guess you and the 89 year old member are the only ones that know the details.
Have you thought about posting the details and any photos?

Ironically my father, George Shuler, served in the 452nd at the same time as Carlyle Gardner and Carlyle is from a small Utah town that went to my wife's high school. She doesn't recall his name but stated that there were lots of Gardners in Bear River City.

As far as I know Dad didn't know Carlyle and my wife and I grew up 100 miles away and only met after high school so this is just a coincidence? I am not sure about coincidence because my mother introduced me to Bud (Heidke?) at a reunion in DC a few years ago not knowing he was originally from Minnesota and I discovered he had lived next door to the middle school English teacher that taught all three of my kids!
