Tail # or MACR #
-
09/29/2007 08:05:58 PM
Looking for the tail number of the MACR # that covers the crash on 12 Sep 1944 of a plane flown by 2Lt Earl A Desjardins. He is listed as being with the 831BS, 485BG and he is reflected on their website as KIA and is buried in a Group Burial at Louisville, Kentucky. The MACR database does not reflect any 485BG losses for that date. Any assistance would be appreciated. The names of the personnel in this grave are as follows and I would assume they are all part of the same crew. Thanks in advance for any information Boone, Joseph H, SSgt Bryant, James W, 2Lt Desjardins, Earl A, 2Lt Gluckman, Stanley Sgt Hermans, Robert M, 2Lt Kees, Lewis E Sgt Lancia, Duido J 2Lt Levcik, Stephen E Sgt Marston, Dale W 2Lt Rugg, Frank D Jr 2Lt Skarl, Anthony R Sgt

Randy...There are times when the Date of Death is given, but, in certain circumstances, it occurred a year earlier...especially if the remains were not recovered immedialely. I am not saying this is true in this occurence, however, this has happened and it is confusing. Some MACRs were made after the war was over, and the German and Japanese records were finally released to US authorities. Just a thought. Jim :-)

Hi Randy, My understanding is that this crew was on a secret mission. They were on temporary assignment to the 885th Bomb Squadron and the plane crashed into a mountain in southern France. I don't have the MACR. The tail number on the plane was 42-78243. I believe the name of the plane was "Dallas Lady". I believe the MACR is 9579. If you obtain the MACR, I'd appreciate it if you could share it with me. I also have the date as 9/12/44, so I believe you have the correct date. Somewhere I have a little bit more on this, but not much. Jerry 485th BG Assoc. Historian EAJWWhiting@aol.com
