Tail Number

Looking for the tail number of the B-25 that was flown by 1Lt Herbert J Jewett of the 490th BS when it crashed on 28 May 1944. The MACR is 15528 but the tail number has been omitted. I have received the Individual Deceased Personnel Files on the crew but none have the tail number listed and I also have the Search and Recovery Report, but it does not contain the tail number. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Randy, On the MACR microfilms at footnote.com, a document reporting the ground search of the crash site by Maj. Southworth and Capt Wadsworth of the 490th is related to a folder marked 15835, but no tailnumber is reported. I believe the documents for an 'original' MACR were never processed because a report of aircraft down with no survivors was received shortly after the squadron determined the plane was missing. And this was confirmed a few days later. Perhaps a review of the Squadron's records at Maxwell could reveal the information. I'll put this on my list of things to check when I return to the AFHRA archives. However, it will most likely be months from now. (edited to extract erroneous information)
