Looking for any additional information on Charles W. Mills killed in action on 5-7-44 while flying with 776th Sqdn, 464th Bomber Group AC #42-78128 Nickname Rat Race, piloted by Charles R. Gibbs. Plane crashed about 25 miles east of Gioia del Colle taking entire crew wih her.
The aircraft was headed back to Romania to hit the railroad repair shops at Bucharest. Take off proceeded according to battle plan. During form up something went wrong inside Rat Race (42-78128). The aircraft went into a cloud bank, and the next thing anyone knew the pilot lost control. Rat Race crashed about 25 miles east of Gioia del Colle, taking the entire crew of Lt. Charles Gibbs with her.
Charles Mills is listed as one of four GUNS on the aircraft.

I have no more info than that posted on the reply to your PM. As I stated, AFHRA at Maxwell AB, Ala advised me they had no record of an "Accident Report" on record for this accident.
