S/Sgt. John W. Schomaker - 11/09/2006 10:05:42 PM
Question: Where do I go for a Crew photo

Att: Andy Mays, ALex Smart and all others on forum
Dear Alex and Andy: Many thanks for your interest and encouragement...I stuck with it even though I spent all this time incorrectly searching B24 crews (per son Eric).
I received the following info in an MACR Report  today.

Schomaker was B 25 Crew member Not a B24 per son Eric.
John W. Schomaker ser # 12075316
Gunner
Aircraft Ser # 42-64661    B25-c
Pilot: John D. Haskell
Command  12ASC
321BG(M)   448 Sqdrn(M)   57th wing
Mission date: 12Nov1943  time 1040
Target: Berat-Kukove Airfield Albania + nearby Oil Installations
Departure Field: Grottaglie

Schomaker and Radio Operater Daniel Hilton bailed out on pilot orders - AA fire hit - both engines smoking.
Pilot Haskel crash landed in Adriatic balance of crew rescued.
//END//
Thank you again.
Keep the Faith Guys!

Hi,

Well done for staying with it.

Glad that you found your man.

The B24 was a bad start and that cannot be helped as peoples memories fade and get distorted over time.

Also the date was not 28th Dec 43 but earlier.

Well done to All concerned.

Alex

John,
I found this message by google-searching Haskell's a/c serial number. The story of Haskell's crash landing is now digitized and available online. It's told from several perspectives. Just search the November '43 321st History file for "Haskell." See:

http://57thbombwing.com/321stBombGroupHistory.php

My same "42-64661" google search also sites the August and September '43 history files.

A search of the 57th BW photo gallery for "Haskell" yields the following photo which says "? Prob. Lt. John Haskell ?" in its summary.
