RAF Navigators - 04/18/2006 12:26:32 PM
Following problems with navigation in the first lift of the 64th Group TC my  father F/O Basil F Newton was taken from bombing operations with 226 Sqn RAF and posted with 35th Sqn USAAC. He left HURN (UK) on 14 Nov 1942 with Lt MC Paul as pilot in C53 No 26485, landing in Casablanca on Nov 15th. He flew daily operations with Lt Paul and 2nd Lt WL Sheffield Jr until Dec 9th when operations were reduced, and he was flown back in a Liberator to resume operational duties over France and the Netherlands. I am particularly interested in this unusual posting, in particular, the wereabouts or history of his American crew, and about other RAF navigators loaned to the USAAC in North Africa

Doug,

Not a direct answer to your question, but you might be able to get a 35th Troop Carrier Squadron lead at http://www.firebirds.org/menu1/cds10.htm ?

Take what you like and leave the rest....

Andy
