Procedure to Process Recognition for KIA or Died in Captivity

Documents reveal many participants in the Battle of Bataan and Corregidor were KIA or captured, and killed/died in captivity.

They were buried or lost before guidelines (Citations to the unit and General Orders were initiated).

For example the First Provisional Air Corps Regiment, II Corps was awarded 3 PUC's, and Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.

By being a member, a veteran is entitled to at least one BSM.
The majority KIA or lost in captivity never received recognition.

I am familiar with the process to submit a DD Form 149 Correction of Military Records for veterans that survived the war.

I understand in order for former AAF personnel to receive recognition, the NOK is to submit a letter with references, and copies of General Orders to:

HQAFPC/DPSIPR
550 C Street West
Suite 12
Randolph AFB, Texas 78150

Has anyone knowledge of a NOK going though such a process?

Robert

There are many, including my uncle, that are still listed as "missing" because their remains could not be identified--even with DNA.  Many were buried in a communal plot and efforts to identify the reamains were unsuccessful.  My grandparents did receive the purple heart from my uncle.; however, nothing else.  Many other NOK might have the same difficulties as I.

I have never heard of that before.  Of the remains in the grve with my uncle all but two of the MIA's were identified.  Stories concerning my uncle were varied from him dying in a hospital to being shot while escaping, to just disappearing.  After all of these years and much research I don't think we--or many others--will ever know the truth.  Meanwhile, he is listed as MIA in the Manilia Cemetery.

If anybody  has a family member that was involved in the Battle of Bataan and/or Corregidor, became MIA or otherwise, and interested to process the individual for full recognition for their combat service, contact me.
