Possible 40th Bomb Squadron Member? - 01/18/2004 10:22:18 AM
Am hoping to learn more about the WWII service of my second cousin, CPL Darrell Elmo Nash, by determining which unit he was assigned to. The only lead I have is the inscription on his grave marker at Arlington, which says "40 AAF Bomb". He was originally from Danville, Virginia, born in Mar 1920, and died in a Veterans Administration hospital in Perry Point Maryland of a rare form of epilepsy in Nov 1950. Have been in contact with former members of the 40th Bomb Group which have no records of him, so I'm wondering if he may have been assigned to the 40th Bomb Squadron, 6th Bomb Group. Can anyone help me? I can be contacted at jeff_nash@hotmail.com Thanks for any assistance. [signature]

Hi Jeff.  I have attached a link to the 6th. Bomb Group.  http://philcrowther.com/6bgmain.html  If you go to the Air Crews link on the left of the home page, then click on the 39th Bomb Squadron you wll find his name listed at the bottom in a group of airmen that they could not find plane info for.  Hope this helps some.

Jeff,

Narrative (if accurate - different middle names) probably pinpoints your cousin's unit.

Ive added 'in the clear' descriptions of the cryptic text for you.

Good luck in your search.

Andy
