Please Help.....
-
12/31/2007 12:55:32 AM
I am trying to help my wife find information and or pictures of her Dads plane. He was in the 308th in the CBI until late 1945. His plane number was #248 and his sqaudron was 425. His name was Dougall McCallum, he was the pilot. We have an old picture that we believe is his nose art, but no name on the plane. Any help would sure be appreciated. Ken & Mary Link

Ken, You're probably aware of this website, but in case you're not, I pass it on to you here. Roger Sidwell may prove to be of some assistance in your search for information. At any rate; good luck and have a great new year! http://www.usaaf-in-cbi.com/308th_web/mmn_rws.htm Andy

Here is a VERY preliminary list of possible planes. Assuming that his " plane number 248 " is the last 3 digits of the serial number and not a " battle number ", the following B-24's were found that I can find no definate assignments on, such as with another Group, Lend-Leased to RAF, transferred to Navy, etc... B-24J-10-CF / 42-64248 / converted at some time to F-7A, to RFC Ontario AAF Ca. 6-29-45 B-24L-20-FO / 44-50248 / Accident report filed Cali, 11-10-45 / to RFC Kingman AAF 12-13-45 B-24M-20-FO / 44-42248 / to RFC Kingman AAF as 7B-24M, 1-20-46 B-24J-5-NT / 44-28248 no info B-24J-1-DT / 42-51248 no info List subject to additions and revisions, but maybe some wizards can find if one of these could be the A/C being sought.

Ken, A candidate from Richard's list is 44-42248 called "My Devotion". Found that this B-24 was with 380th BG. There's a picture on following website: http://www.b24bestweb.com/mydevotion-v1.htm Perhaps the name of this B-24 rings a bell? Regards, Leendert Brugge/Belgium

Ken, Sorry, I see now that I mixed up 308th BG and 380th BG! Leendert

I have B-24J-25-CO 42-73248 listed with 425BS. No known name and the aircraft was scrapped in 1945. The bit of the nose turret fairing we can see in the photo is consistent with this serial number. Unfortunately I have no other photos. Pete
