P-51 escorts 13 September 1944 - 09/09/2007 02:40:01 AM
Two P-51's escorted a crippled 92nd Bomb Group B-17 bomber to an airfield in Belgium on 13 September 1944. Could they have been from the 359th Fighter Group. Any info welcome.

For Mission no. 217 the 359th escorted B-24s to Merseburg; after bombing ,the group covered the trailing wing ( B-17s ).
From their history "Mustangs and Unicorns";
" While escorting two crippled B-17s out, Capt. King's flight ( that's Capt. Ben H. King 368FS ) spots fifty-plus enemy fighters climbing up from 16,000 '  , in the vicinity of Frankfurt.These bandits are not engaged so as to maintain cover for the cripples ".
 
It doesn't mention the Bomb Group and it says TWO Forts ( ? ) .                        Nick

I know the serial of the 92nd Bomb Group B-17. Just wanted to learn more about the two P-51's who escorted the bomber to an airfield in Belgium. Thanks for the info

Do you know the names of the crew members, 44-6120 and location of the crash ?
Do you have auther information for this B-17 ?

No information regarding site where 44-6120 landed.  Pilot was Lt Frank Norris.
