P-47M-1-RE...question about photo from Squadron Signal no 208

Hi all,
 
I´m interesting in fate of all P-47M-1-RE Thunderbolt and on the page 40 in Squadron Signal Aircraft in Action no 208 is photo from boneyard in england 1945 with one P-47M or more M´s? Seeking futher information about the location or photo in higher resolution.

    Regardless of where the photo was taken, the caption is a work of fiction; or at least very poor guesswork. To start with, Lanowski flew HV-Zbar Silver Lady and not HV-Z Lucky Lady. As there is no squadron code or serial number visible, the P-47D cannot even be attributed to the 61st FS. Secondly, Vogt was not with the 56th FG when they were flying the M model so the one visible will possibly be 44-21178 or 44-21198, both assigned to Lt. Vernon A Smith at one time or another. Unfortunately I am in France for a few days so cannot check my records but when I get home, I will check on Vogt's service dates.

    Vogt was in the 356 FG 360 FS in the summer of 1944 after transfering from the 56 FG.
    Flew "Jersey Mosquito" PI-V. I'm sure he left 356 FG before they went to P-51's .
    Squadron books are famous for there captions being "interesting" to put a nice way.
    The 4th FG book from Squadron books was the worst that I have seen but they ar cheep and have some photo's I have never seen.

    absolutle agree with Peter Randall comments about pilots, I have same data from your web....and agree with comments, that some labels in Squadrons photo are ......
     
    This photo is interesting, that there is row of stripped Thunderbolts - Razorback with marking Z in foreground and Bubletops in camo and marking of 63rd FS 56th FG background. Camo looks like used in M version of P-47 so this is year 1945, maybe this photo answer us, what was fate of P-47M´s after inactivaiting of 56th FG.
     
    Better resolution or other photo from same place will be welcome.

    Good morning gentlemen:
    While this is a bit out of my comfort zone, here is my 2 cents worth.
     
    UN-V, 44-21198, was involved in a mid-air collision on 11 June 1945 with UN-E, 44-21137. Solomon Epstein was flying UN-V and Rodney F Jocelyn was flying UN-E while flying over Boxted. UN-V may have been assigned to Vernon A Smith but I can't be 100% sure of this as I have never really studied the 56th FG.
     
    John Vogt finished his tour of duty with the 56th in February 1944 and in October 1944 with the 356th.

    Do you /or somebody else have info about this mid-air collision, which looks like hot aspirante for this photographed maschines? Crash-landing or use pilots paraschute? Other photo of this machines or this boneyard will be welcome.

    Its very likely that the photo was taken at Burtonwood.
    Hundreds of P-47's were scrapped there in 1945.

    Hi Nige,
    thanks for info about Burtonwood - and agree with you, in 1945 there were scrapped many aircraft, not only P-47 Thunderbolt.
