Michel, the other 366 Fighter Group P-47 lost on 11-18-44 was piloted by Lt Homer H. Schaeffer during a dive bombing mission in the Hurtgen Forest, Germany. He was hit by flak, bailed out, but his chute failed to open. He's buried in the Luxembourg American Cemetary. Information from "The War We Fought" published by the 366 Fighter Group Asociation. According to the diary of Lt Lund, Schaeffer was not scheduled to fly that day, and Lund's plane was in for maintenance and he took Schaeffer's plane. The Group ended up flying 5 missions that day due to exceptionally good weather and obviously he took someone else's plane up. While the pilots were assigned their own plane I'm told they would routinely take any plane available. Hope this helps.
