P-47 #42-26654 crashed in Normandy - July 8 1944

Hi everybody,

I'm looking for any info about the pilot Capt. Cowell VanDeventer 088257 who was killed the 8th of July 1944 in the crash of his aircraft P-47 #42-26654. Well I'm seeking any info about this pilot and his aircraft. Where he was crashed exactly ? What were the circumstances of the crash ? Is it exist a picture of Vandeventer or about his aircraft ?

Any info are welcome,
Thanks in advance

Regards
Loic from Normandy

    Loic,

42-26654 loss was recorded in Missing Air Crew Report  (MACR) #6671.

Evidently the day he was lost, Captain Vandeventer was assigned to the 373rd Fighter Group's 410th Fighter Squadron.

Before flying in the ETO, he flew in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations (MTO) where he was creditied with two aerial victories (see attachment).

    Hello Loic

Unfortunately I don’t have the MACR , but I have the microfilm of this unit
You may ask the MACR at the AFHRA  AFHRANEWS@MAXWELL.AF.MIL, you send an Email with your request and of course your address , also if you need more details on the crash site and the circumstances you may ask for the IDPF (Individual Deceased Personnel File)
for Capt Van Deventer Cowell (KIA)O-885257
You send a message with the reason of the request at

    Hi All,

A very late reply to this thread - in case anyone is out there. I too am interested in this pilot. I have some of his memorabilia including a photo of him with 4 other 410th pilots. Happy to send a scan. Would love to get more info on "Slim" - Capt. VanDeventer.
