P-40K-1 16thFS

I am building a model of a P-40K-1, that a friend of mine, Bill Band, flew while in China, 1942-43. I have several photos from his family and book(Warriors Who Ride the Wind), all black and white. I am trying to determine the color of the inside of the shark mouth (appears to be one color, without a tongue) -possibly all black or all red? I am also trying to get his tail number. He passed away in December. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

The P-40K you're referring to was #365. Lt Band flew this a/c in the spring of 1944. He took it from the original pilot Capt. Dale E. Pinckney when he rotated home. The original name was "Little Piute" and was renamed "Lucky" by Bill Band. I have some photos of Capt Pinckney and "Little Piute" which may answer your 2nd question about the sharksmouth. Contact me if you're still looking for the data. Jack Cook
