P-38J Aircraft Documentation for Scale Model
-
08/08/2007 08:28:15 PM
Hello - I am currently in the process of having a 1/5 scale P-38 radio controlled model airplane built. This airplane will be entered into Scale Masters competition where it will be judged on scale accuracy compared to the full size airplane. I’ve selected a unique aircraft, a P-38J that I’ll call the “bird of prey†because of its unique nose which is painted yellow and has red lips and teeth. It also has yellow spinners on the props and invasion stripes. The airplane is from the 485th Fighter Squadron of the 370th Fighter Group of the 9th Air Force. This plane was stationed in England during 1944. I am in need of any information that you may have on this specific airplane such as Pilot, Tail Number, Serial Number, Specific Paint Colors, Missions, Armament, etc. Photographs of the airplane would be tremendously helpful. Any help with my documentation will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian [image]local://upfiles/13690/AF2217737F994459AE9ABF05E168F588.jpg[/image]

Brian this is the only photo I've seen of 9D-F; poor quality but it confirms the markings on your profile. The full D-Day stripes would make it June-early July. I'm pretty sure the markings---9D/ white square / yellow colours---are 401FS , the 485th was 7F / triangle / red. Nick
