-
06/02/2008 09:42:18 PM
One of people whose father was shot down on that last mission of the Squadron was given his fathers military items. Does anyone know if this patch has anything to do with Air Corp or the Unit? Thank you, I told him I would try to find out, thank you again for your help. [image]local://14753/1B88E13714574963A703280AAD98EB5E.jpg[/image]

Thank you so very much. It must have just been something the man picked up along the way. He was Army Air Corp through and through, again thank you.

Dutchman, The more I research the 38th Depot Repair Squadron, the more I find guys who were in the regular Army at the start of the war and then were transferred to an ASF unit so this may be the case with this gentleman. I just received an entire collection from the son of a 38th DRS guy and there are three photo albums. One entire album is him with an infantry battalion after the start of the war yet I have him on the original unit roster from 1942 so he transferred in when they activated the unit. But you never know. Dave

My father enlisted in the 11 Field Artillery from 1937 to 1940 at Schofield. It is the same with him. In 1940 he enlisted immediately into the 11 BG H the 42 Squadron at Hickam. He has items from both Units and they can be confusing to say the least at times. But he has most of it clearly indicated. One thing is common with both Units from the time of his enlistments, there is NO one to find or contact. The 42 Squadron lost all its B-17s on Feb. 1, 1943 and the remaining crews were returned to Hickam. The 11 Field Artillery was absorbed by other units. It is too bad he has a number of photos of their earliest field pieces and artillery. [image]local://14753/357A8BA994F84690AF02793CD0E6C8B7.jpg[/image]
