November 26, 1943 Escort Mission - Sanga River - 04/07/2007 04:36:40 PM
Hi All,

I'm currently investigating the loss of two RAAF Boomerangs on November 26, 1943 apparently at the mouth of the Sanga River in New Guinea.

The aircraft were on a Tactical Recon mission and escorted by four aircraft (apparently Airacobras) of the 41st Fighter Squadron.  I don't believe any of these Airacobras were lost, but I was wondering if anyone knew, or could assist, with details on this mission from the USAAF side of things.

I know it's a long shot...

Hi Daniel,

Find the Fighter Sector Control Unit for the period, you may strike details there. Also try 5th Fighter Command USAAF Records.

Its not 4FCU RAAF Port Moresby as they folded up 31st October 43. Damn, if it was pre Nov 43 we would have had it for you.

Will keep looking though
