Need help w/ squadron colors
-

Hi folks, Just found this website and wanted to ask if anyone knows the correct colors for the 764th a/c on their engine cowls? My great uncle was in crew 15-1 (Lt Olliver) and I'm working on some artwork of his aircraft, which I believe was Miss Lace. TIA Peter

Peter: The engine cowls were a dark green color. Sort of a Phthalo green or British racing green. My father built a model of a B-24 a few years after the war and painted it with that color. He is absolutely positive that the color used for the A/C number background and the engine cowls was this dark green. (It has been erroneously shown as blue in some profiles.) I would be VERY interested in any photos you might have of "Miss Lace." I have one of dad and his crew in front of the illustration on the nose of the plane. He flew this aircraft on his final mission to complete his tour. The next day "Miss Lace" was shot down by flak. BTW: The replacement crews (not the original crews that went to Italy) were not attached to a single plane. They were assigned the aircraft they would fly on a sortie at the mission briefing. So your great uncle probably flew several different aircraft while with the 764th. Ken
