John, maybe by going have a look here : http://www.kensmen.com/, you'll find more, but no known B-24 with that serial number, like Paul just said.

Good Luck,

John, if "Blondes Away" is the right name for the plane, and I think it is, it was already posted about on this forum, see : http://forum.armyairforces.com/m_47059/mpage_1/tm.htm#47758

Ariane... thank you very much for the information you give me.  The name of the plane was "Blondes Away".  See if this name rings a bell  1st Lt. James R. Barber who may of been the pilot of this plane.  Agains thanks alot.   John

John, I didn't have more luck than you, as you read on the site I posted above, the crew is not well defined. Christine might be able to help you. I also found a pic and a text :

http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aprilskies/264/ob_photos.html

"The BLONDES AWAY Crew - This photo is believed to be taken at March Field, Ca. prior to being deployed to England. Crew to be identified (possibly Lt. Fern Titus Crew or Lt. Joe DeJarnette Crew). This photo is a close-up of the crew from the full view of BLONDES AWAY featured on the AIRCRAFT page. Info per Don Olds. Photo courtesy of Mark Forlow.. "

Only thing that bothers me is that I saw two pics of B-24 "Blondes Away", with two different nose arts... One was the Flying Lady by Vargas, the other I don't know.

Maybe Paul will be able to tell you more later.

Regards,

Ariane.

RE: Need Names Of Crew Members On B-24 #42-11006 - 02/26/2006 05:28:57 PM

1st Lt. James R. Barber

Been on the ABMC site, and found this about James R. Barber :

James R. Barber

Second Lieutenant, U.S. Army Air Forces
Service # 0-690034
64th Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, Heavy

Entered the Service from: Texas
Died: 5-Aug-44
Missing in Action or Buried at Sea
Tablets of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery
Manila, Philippines

Awards: Air Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster

The date is right, but they say 2LT instead of 1st.
Maybe you already had that info, but I hope it can help in some way.

Ariane.

John...There are two entries in Wally Forman's B-24 Nose Art and Name Directory....one shows Blondes Away with the serial number 42-110006 with NO Photo, and the other shows Blondes Away with no BG or BS but shows a photo.

Wally's son  is at Avibuff@aol.com  (Wally passed away recently and his son is carrying on his work).

John...I don't honestly know....Wally was rumored to only send photos to relatives..I have not lost any relatives to aircraft in war, so I cannot say what his son's answer will be.

RE: Need Names Of Crew Members On B-24 #42-11006 - 02/27/2006 06:41:23 AM
Yes, that's the one I couldn't describe, then maybe the other one with the Vargas Lady is another "Blondes Away" ? Can somebody help by going to this link :

http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aprilskies/264/ob_photos.html

I've lost the hosting site link for pics in my pc crash, that's why I'm asking you to check this. You can make the pic bigger. I think I've heard some nose arts were changed after a while, but I suppose it was for security reasons, here the Vargas pin up has been used on so many that I don't see why it would have had to be replaced ???

Thanks for your help,

Ariane.

Thanks a lot, Daniel! Now I don't feel like a complete dummy anymore, I read somewhere that a "Blondes Away" had been to Switzerland, it should have rung a bell! I have your links in my favorites, great site!!! I use PSP9 to "play" with graphics, and I saw a lot of Vargas pin ups in the messages I get from my groups. I will definitely go through your pics!

RE: Need Names Of Crew Members On B-24 #42-11006 - 12/24/2006 10:22:59 AM
Hello everyone - Happy Holidays. This is my first post. Below is an e-mail that I just sent to Mark Forlow (it bounced). Needless to say, the hair on the back of my neck stood up when I reached this forum page.

Hi Mark,

I saw the photos you contributed at
http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aprilskies/264/ac_photos.html
and
http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aprilskies/264/blondesaway.jpg
and
http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aprilskies/264/blondesawaycrew.jpg

My sister-in-law says that that was the name of the B-24 that her father flew
in. His name was William (Bill) Bischoff. However, he and the crew were shot
shot down on August 5th, 1944 over Seram (Ceram) north of Australia. The captain
of his bomber was First Lt. Edward Pederson.

Any chance of reconciling this apparent contradiction? Thanks!

Terry,
This looks right. Word has it that Bill Bischoff was executed the evening they were shot down, but coming from me, it's 3rd or 4th hand. My sister-in-law was 1 at the time. She and her mother (Bill's widow) were over for dinner tonight and I mentioned this forum. She was excited to hear about it. She has a dossier on Bill and his death.
