My dad....
-
10/11/2006 10:29:47 AM
From what I can determine, My dad was a blister gunner on a B 29 based on Tinian. Like many WWII vets, he didn't like to talk much about the war and as a result, I feel like I missed learning about a big part of his life. Dad was 44 years old when I was born in 1954 and he passed away in 1972. The info I could find such as a "vital area pass" from MacDill field issued Apr 2 1944 reads "Sq S 326 AAF BU (CCTS HB) Cpl. Charles Hines SN 36100948. I also have a B29 crew photo from MacDill with all the crew members named on the back as follows: Crew #44 Pilot- Lt.Hall, Co-Pilot- Lt. Campbell,Bomb.-Lt.chenulk,Radar-Lt.Shannon,engineer-Sgt.Barrington, Blister Gunner Cpl. Hines, Radio-Cpl Bennet,Blister gunner-Cpl.Savage,Tail Gunner-Cpl.Willenford,Ring gunner-Sgt. Harp I recall the Pirate logo on old photos I have seen in the past. I'm hoping someone may have some info on the name of his plane and possibly some other info.A tip of my hat and a thank you to the greatest generation of American Heros- our WWII vets. Chuck.
