My Father recently passed away...
-

Email: allence01@earthlink.net Imported from Discus on 1/2/2002 My Father recently passed away. I am looking for any info on the 507th BS 333rd BG (I don't know the Numbered AAF unit) and the emblem used on their leather flight jackets. (Indian head with the feathers indicating the unit oraganization numbers in color. This was explained to me to prevent the Japanese from gathering unit info if captured). I am going through his Army Air Corp documents (PCS and TDY orders) and might be able to list other crew men in the Tinian area. I apologize if this is the wrong area to request this info. I am getting somewhat overloaded on website research.

The 333rd Bomb Group (Very Heavy) was one of the B-29 units assigned to 8th Air Force's redeployment to the Pacific, deploying Jun - Aug 1945. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, the war ended before the 8th AF units were brought into the fray.
Mauer notes in his history that after the war the group ferried Allied prisoners of war from Japan to the Philippine Islands. It was inactivated on Okinawa in May of 1946.
Unfortunately I know of no organized veterans group for this unit.

Hello,
I'm replying to an old post here, but I'm in the process of trying to locate members of the 333rd group, 507th bomb squadron. I've been successful with 3 of 15 so far but I'm working on limited information. Names only. If anyone has any advice or resources for me I would be grateful. I'm talking my Grandfather to the WWII Memorial Dedication in May and would love to coordinate a reunion of sorts. Sincerely,
Amy

Hello,
I, too, am trying to get more information about my father's activities in the 333rd; he passed away in 1984, had a severe stroke in 1973, by the time the group's activities were declassified he couldn't talk well enough to discuss them.
I have a re-assignment order from him, dtd 12 Nov 45, issued by HQ 8th AF, under the "Sunset Project". The following are listed on it from 333rd BG(VH):
Humpreville, Louis E, Capt, Mariana FL
McClelland, Joseph H, 1Lt, Beaumont TX (my father)
Saloman, David, 1Lt, Patterson NJ
Johnstone, Dow D, TSgt, Jackson, MS
Ussle, Charles, MSgt, Thoka, TX
Seneta, **** J, Sgt, Cranesville, PA
There are also a number of names from the 28th Photo Recon Sq, as well as 1 name from the 1st ATS.
I just visited this site, and don't know how to 'post' info in the chat pages, but got your address off one of the listings. Hope I'm not inconveniencing you, but my mother (still living, but frail) had made some comments a few years ago that I'd like to pursue through others more in the know.
Please contact me, if possible.
Regards,
Mark B. McClelland [reply][/reply]
