My Dad - 10/11/2007 08:31:46 PM
Can anyone help me find out whose crew or aircraft my father was assigned to?
S/Sgt Paul E. Calkin he was a gunner, he was assigned with 100th BG, 349th BS returned to US for short stay and reassigned to 463rd BG, 772nd BS. He doesn't remember whose crew he was on but he has 15th insignia. I've requested his records (with his permission) but haven't received anything.

David,
I will look through what few combat crew records I have right now and see what I can find.  I did look through all the 772nd crew pictures I have but came up empty.  I will continue to search.  I know I have seen his name listed somewhere in the records or in a picture someone has submitted to me but I can't locate it right now.

I will also look through the 772nd Squadron history book to see if I can find him there.

I'll get back to you.

I've looked in the 772nd Bomb Squadron book too and so far I haven't come up with anything either. However on page 397 it lists a question mark for the Left Waist Gunner on Pilot Lt. Eugene Burns Crew. perhaps indicating that the crew position was unassigned (speculation). On page 383 it shows a picture of the crew with 9 members rather than the full 10.
That crew by the way had missions until May 1945.Swindy mentioned on the 463rd website your father was on the 463rd's roster in March 1945.
The rest of the crew is listed as Copilot Lt. Wilber E. Heise,Navigator Lt. Frank(or Arthur) F. Miller,Bombardier Lt. Vernon D. Evans,Flt.Eng. Sgt. Kenith T. Gooch,Radio Sgt. John H.Crowell,
Lower Ball Sgt. George E. Veselka,R Waist Sgt. John McKim and Tail Gunner Sgt. Leslie P.Marino.
One B-17 they were assigned to was called Sno-Snap.
It doesn't mean that your father was with this crew however It could be a possibility.Perhaps you could mention those names to your dad and see if they sound familiar. Sorry I meant this reply to David folks.
