My Dad - 01/20/2007 02:07:08 PM
My Dad, Edward A. Kienzle, served in the Army Air Force from 7/42 through 10/45. He was in North Africa,Sicily up to Rome and worked on C-47s. He received  a distinguished unit citation for action inmediterrean theater, 26 June to 3 July '44 against hostile enemy airplanes. Then he was shipped to Trinidad to go to So Pacific but due to Japanese surrender he was do on Oct 2,45
Thanks for any help!
Mary
He served in 60th Troop Carrier group and I find a notation about 1107th Army Air Force Base Unit. My Dad died in Nov 1993. All he ever talked about was how hot it was in No Africa and they worked on planes at night and how they worked their way from Sicily up to liberate Rome. Can any one tell me how to research his unit or squadron more?  Thanks you all for all your service to ur contry, We are so proud of our Dad, I have his uniform that he married my Mom in on Oct 27 45.!

I believe your dad was in the 60th Service Group under the 15th Air Force Service Command.  You can see an organizational chart of the 15th Air Force at www.frankambrose.com/pages/chart.html .

dear Mary
Just wondering if you had any luck with your quest?I am researching the RAF 148 squadron which also were stationed at Brindisi were I beleive you Father was station during 1944, the crew I am interested flew a Halifax on SOE/partisan missions. From the diary I have which has started my research they had close contact with American servicemen Airforce and Navy boys who were based there as well. I hoping to get in contact with anyone who remembers British/Canadian/South African servicemen who were based there.
I hope you have had luck and if I find anything that may be of interest to you I will past it
