He was a Capt. and received a field promotion to Major, which he was not able to keep due to leaving the service at the end of the war. He flew the P-47 until he was grounded for medical reasons in January or February of 1944. 

Anyone have any details on this man his son believes he was with the 81st FG, time frames for that Group would suggest P-39 more than P-47.
