Miss Chief Makers
-

I have recently acquired a photo of a flight crew wearing a "Miss Chief Makers" patch on their jackets. This photo is NOT in front of a plane, but has 11 members, identified by position and last name: Bomb. Thoma Co-Pilot Hancock Pilot Clark Nav. Fox F.E. Brower Radio Lahart T.G. Whiting R.G. Wainwright S.G. Gillingham L.G. Wojcinski Radar Formisano Also an 8x10 portrait of a soldier in uniform, who, on comparison with the group photo seems to be Thoma. These photos are totally unrelated to me, but I'm sure somebody out there would like them. Or is there somewhere that they can be posted for use on the net? Kathryn

Kathryn, Saw your post by chance re: Miss Chief Makers. I am very familiar with the picture you have; they flew a B29 with the 73rd wing, 499th group, 879th sqd. out of Saipan. The Radar operator was my father (Michael Formisano). I have been trying to locate some of the crew members during the past year; fortunately, I am in contact with gunner Ernest Gillingham, and M.L.Thoma's wife and family. I was very excited to make these contacts through this Forum. I wonder how the photos came to be in your possession? Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Michael, I am the owner of a website dedicated to bombardiers. Can you send me any information and photos related to Thoma and his crewmates? I'd like to post the data to my site. Send what you can to: hfhmsite@comcast.net Thanks!! Dave
