Mishap Information - 09/05/2007 12:57:07 PM
Looking for any information pertaining to the crash of the aircraft that these indivuals were on.  Date of crash was 13 February 1943.  I have searched the MACR database and there is no crash listed on that date for the 319th.  I have found these individuals names on the b26.com website as being with the 319th.  Any information would be appreciated and thanks in advance for any information

Randy, here's the information you seek: I have no info on MACR for that crash. MACR # 6 is dated April 28th 1943 regarding the Marauders I have info about.

The aircraft in question was B-26 Marauder 41-17793 of 438th BS 319th BG. It was shot down by flak over El Aouina Air Field in Tunis on February 13th 1943. Pilot listed as 2nd Lt.  Jack W. Nix and a question mark behind  2nd Lt. Rodman. This was mission #29 for 319th  BG, and 5 a/c dropped 120 lbs. frags. 2 a/c were lost. Flight Leader was Captain D.L. Gilbert. Mission # 29 was not low level as the other first 28 (except # 16), bombing altitude 10000 feet.

Here's the mission report: "Mission # 29, five planes, 120-lb. frags, target El Aouina Air Field, results uncertain because of bad weather and evasive action: twenty to thirty Me-109's shot down two B-26's, one of which crashlanded within our lines killing Sgt. CHISM. Other plane with Lts. RODMAN and DARK, abd Sgts. HOLGATE, LUTIE and WOLFE last seen heading down followed by enemy fighters; three a/c destroyed, two probable".

I have to edit my records, as it was fighters and not flak which brought these planes down. Will try to find info about the other plane.
