Charlie..........I think you are referring to Wretham Hall, where the 359th officers were based. It is in 600 acres about 6 miles N. of Thetford ,away from the base.
The nearest railway station was Thetford where thay caught the train to London.
The favourite pub was the "Dog and Partridge" in E. Wretham, known to the GIs as the "Pig and Whistle". Also used the "Green Dragon".
Incidentally Thomas Paine was born in Thetford and there is a commemorative plaque there.

Charlie...........as far as I can tell the Hall was about 2 miles NW of the village ( it was burned down in 1949).
You can see the local pubs at
    "www.pubutopia.com/pubs/T/Thetford/East Wretham"

the Dog and Partridge at least has altered little in 65 years ,the sign is in a different place and they've probably had a restaurant added; the GIs travelled by bike usually.
Attached is a recent road map ,I added the steel mat runway and CT (the red dot). Before it was laid the field was grass.
The watch tower (sorry, control tower ! ) was very unusual, the upper floor was cantilevered and supported on posts. I think it was unique.
Hope you can find the pubs.

    Cheers     Nick

Just had an e-mail from a 359th pilot also a map; Wretham Park is due north of the field across the main road ,about 3 miles from the village. I believe the hall was in the grounds with Hall Farm on the boundary.

Nick, someone sent me a goole map with location of the place were the Manor House was located.  Your directions seem to be
the same.  Also someone is sending me a color photo of the building in about 2 weeks.

    Thanks for all your help.

My brother in law's wife is going to provide me with a very limited number of him in uniform within the next 10 days.  Also some
of his records so I hopefully can pin point what unit he was assigned to.
