Maj. Richard K. Graham - 455th Bomb Group - 741st Bomb Squadron - 01/04/2008 09:29:27 PM
My name is Ken Graham and I am the grandson of
Maj. Richard K. Graham - 455th Bomb Group - 741st Bomb Squadron.  Unfortuantly, he died a few years before I was born and I never had the opportunity to hear his stories or learn about his crew.  He was the Captain of a B-24 out of Cerignola, Italy.  I have very little information on my Grandfather and would love to contact anybody that served with him.  I have pictures he took while in the ETO, his dog tags and the flag that was presented to his wife, my Grandmother, at his funeral on July 4, 1961.  Any help I can get in this search would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ken,

The 455th BG has a website with much information but I have lost the URL for the time being. DaveTW1 is a great source of information about the 455th BG and will probably respond to your post.

Hi Ken,

I have a little bit of information (every now and then I get lucky!).  He was with the 741st BS Operations section.

I have a photo of him with the other ops guys, circa January 1945, and if you send me a PM with your E-Mail I will send it out to you.  In addition to mission planning, etc., he also flew with the squadron commander's crew.

If you contact the editor of the newsletter at the site that Vic mentioned, he can add your question(s) to the next issue of the Cerignola Connection:

http://www.awardphp.com/veterans.php (can also download the BG history and current/past newsletters).

Maybe you can connect with a member that served with him.  I'll check to see if I can find anything else...

Regards,

Dave

Update:  After speaking with my Grandmother, she says she remebers something about my Grandfather being in Bari, Italy.  I also found an article she had saved from the paper, about his Distinguished Flying Cross, here is the text.

Unusual leadership exhibited during a long-range bombing mission against vital German tanks works at St. Valetin, Austira, won the Distinguished Flying Cross for Capt. Richard K. Graham, 23, Dallas, Texas.  On March 23rd, despite an intense barrage of German flak, Captain Graham led his formation of Liberators (B-24’s) through to target and returned safely to his Fifteenth Air Force base in Italy.

Hello, my father also flew in the 741st squadron. I have found men who were in his crew.  You should definately ask your question on the printed newsletter Cergoli times.  It gave me a great response.  Also, your grandfather's name is in the book "flight of the vulgar vultures"  I have put the link to the PDF version below.  Look under the Roster pages, Page 14 of the PDF file under Roster...

Good luck!
