Norm Avery's book, "The Magnificiet Medium" discusses the fact that 16 487th BS planes were equipted with 5 additional .50 caliber guns in the nose section in late April 1943, with the final plane being finished on May 4.  Additionally, there are several photos of these planes in the 487th Yearbook.
 
Does anyone have first hand information on how long these planes were kept in this configuration?  What missions these planes were used?  This is interesting given all the attention the strafter B-25s got in tha Pacific.
