RE: MSgt Henry Charletta, Bombardier, 66th BS - 04/20/2007 12:29:26 PM
Sorry about the accidental post above.

I have been researching my great uncle MSgt Henry Charletta, Bombardier, 44th BG, 66th BS.  I had learned that he was a "Section Chief" and did not have to fly, but apparently due to crew shortages, he volunteered to do so as he was a gunner on one flight and bombardier on the rest.

He flew on 41-23771, 41-23804, 41-23769, and 42-40354 (also 40-2354).  He was KIA on 16Feb1943.

Many family questions are unanswered: What were his stateside detachments and training locations? (I had heard that he was on Long Island for some reason, possibly Norden?)  What were his Shipdham activities/jobs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I am a member of the 8th AF Historical Society and they provided me with some info about missions flown.

Thank you for any help at all.

Thanks for the info.

I have compiled the names of the crewmembers who flew with Henry.  I was quite surprised to find how many of them did not survive six months to one year over there.  The losses seem to have been tremendous.
