My Grandfather's Discharge paperwork states that he was an Airplane & Engine Mechanic with the 44th Air Service Group 497th & 498th Air Service Squadron. He was in the CBI theater and served in the India-Burma, Central Burma and GO150 WD45 (not sure what that means) from 09/24/44-02/11/46.

Thanks!
I had been trying to do a little research on the unit my Grandfather was assigned to but couldn't find much on the 44th except for a line or two that it existed. I was afraid I had come to a dead end, he passed in early 2005 and unfortunately his records were lost in the "infamous" fire. I know its a long shot,  but I have pictures that I plan on posting soon and am hoping that I may find someone who knows someone who may have been in the same area at the time. Thanks again for giving me some info I can research further, I appreciate it!

The 497th and 498th Service Sqs appear to have been activated at Camp Springs AAF. MD (today's Andrews AFB), where they remined until Feb 44.  Since the 44th Service Gp was at Barksdale Fld. LA at the time, they were apparently assigned to it later (perhaps at Lakeland AAF, FL, where it moved in Feb 44).  The units moved to India in 1944 and added the word "Air" to their designations about November 1944.  I show the 44th and 497th at Dinjan Apt, while the 498th was at Jorhat ("Old" style Air Service Groups were designed to support two combat groups, typically at two different airfields).
Also, GO150 WD45 would seem to refer to War Department General Order 150, 1945.  Is this associated with an award or decoration of your grandfather's?
