Lt. Mauldin 37thBS - 09/10/2007 11:20:24 AM
I am looking for information about Lt Fred M. Mauldin of the 37th BS, 17th BG.  He was a friend of my mother-in-law.  He is listed on the Tablets of the Missing at North African American Cemetery as being KIA on December 1st, 1942.  Elswhere I have read that the Group did not see action till December 30th, 1943.  Can anyone clarify this?

Lt. Fred M. Mauldin's crew attached (copy of original Operations Order #35 for 17th BG of November 17th 1942).

His plane, 41-17937 cracked up on take off in Accra. They were enroute to Telergma, Algeria, where the flight echelon arrived on December 23rd 1942, after they left Morrison Field, FL, on November 18th 1942.

First 17th BG mission was on December 30th 1942, target Gabes A/D in Tunisia.  The 17th BG records I have says December 2nd 1942, but ABMC records says December 1st 1942. Of the original crew S/Sgt. Delmar J. Rock (Radio-Gunner) also lost his life on December 1st 1942, buried at North African Cemetery.

Another original crew member, Engineer-Gunner S/Sgt. Harry Feigenbaum was KIA on March 22nd 1943, listed on Tablets of Missing North Africa American Cemetery. His plane was probably 41-17883, which was shot down and crashed near Cape Bizerta, Tunisia.

Andy,
Thanks for the info.  My mother in law is from the Jackson area and knew Lt. Mauldin from there.  My uncle was flying out of the MTO at that time and she asked if I had any, or could find out any, info on Lt. Mauldin.  She just knew he died "over there".
Thanks again.
Gary
