Lt. Jean-Jacques Charles GOFFIN 7th PRG - 09/08/2007 04:11:08 PM
On September 8th, 1944 (exactly 63 years ago) Lt.GOFFIN died of his wounds, when he tried to bring down his SPITFIRE PRXI (MB952) near a small village called Reckange, located in the center of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. Is there someone out who can provide more infos ?! Many thanks in advance !

Regards !

Erny,
Goffin was on a photo mapping mission.  Probably hit by Flak.  He was better known as Charles Goffin and was a Belgian citizen. After a long stay in camp Miranda in Spain (where people were held who had escaped occupied Europe), he was declared unfit to fly for the RAF, but the USAAF had no problem.
For more of his career see "www.surfcity.kund.dalnet.se/Belgium_Goffin.htm" and for a drawing of his Spitfire "www.bamfbamrs.be/Bahl/index.php?cat=2"

Regards,
Leendert

Re your private mail: unfortunately I have no more info about Lt Goffin other than what's on the web. Just google "Charles Goffin Spitfire" or words with that effect and I'm sure you'll find several hits that direct you to more details about this Belgian pilot.

Grüss,
