Looking for information on my grandfather - 07/18/2007 05:16:16 PM
Bear with me,I am new to all this forum posting stuff. My name is Tara and I'm looking for some information on my grandfather, Captain Benjamin Callison of the 487th BG ...389th squadron. My grandfather recently passed away(last month) and I have been trying to find out any information on him. I have contacted the 487th website and they only have the information I posted in this email. I'd appreciate any information any of you may have on my grandfather.
Thanks,
T.Callison-Mahovlich

Tara,

If you'v'e been to the 487th site(s) you saw they are having a reunion this Sept in Charleston.  Go!  Take what you have about/from your grandfather (be sure to ask relatives what they have, old letters home, etc).

Reunions are full of photos, information, and recollections of guys who flew with your grandfather.  Find a way to go.  You'll get deeper info from a reunion than anything you can find elsewhere.  And be sure to put his name on your namebadge and circulate and ask questions.

Its not too expensive, its priceless.  Its not too far away, its close for what you'll learn and be able to pass on to the family.

Hello Tara,
Your grandfather arrived at Lavenham on December 28, 1944 and was assigned as 836th Bomb Squadron crew # 19. The crew was as follows:
Robert H. Braeunig pilot
Benjamin Callison Jr. co-pilot
Almon F. Adams navigator
William J. Murray radio-operator
Walter Turner Jr. engineer
Jack F. Kohl gunner
James T. Erskine gunner
Frank P. Schaul gunner
Robert P. Rhoades gunner

I suggest you contact Lee Hauenstein, the 487th BG webmaster, for the address of Jim Erskine's son, Tim. Jim passed away last year. Perhaps there are some others still a member of the Association.
Do you perhaps have a crewphoto for the website?? www.487thbg.org

Best regards,
Ivo de Jong
