Looking for information on Paul Neafus - 06/13/2005 09:43:11 AM
I am the great-nephew of Major Paul Neafus that was stationed in Corsica and was an Operations Officer for the 489th.  Anyone with any information would be greatly appreciated he was killed in a fighter training accident in 1949 in Shreveport, LA.  Thank you in advance.

Nick,

Here's an internet 'hit' on your great-uncle (see below); www.rootsweb.com is a genealogy website.

Looks like a record in the rootsweb database of an October 6, 1942 newspaper article with your great uncle listed in the newspaper article.

FYI - If you're not a genealogist, SNDX N120 = Soundex N120 (a sort of shorthand notation used to catalog and group names).
Can't help with the newspaper code = 1455.

Nick,

Gee, that was easy....

Newspaper code 1455 = Omaha World Herald.

I guess if you want the newspaper article, contact that newspaper to get a copy.

Good luck

Andy

Do you have a copy of the 489th BS year book?  You can get a loaner copy from MAxwell Air Force base through you local library if it is set up for interloan services.  I can also make you a copy of the Section on Ops.

He is also mentioned several times in the late Alex Stewarts memoirs "Pictures on the Piano"

Poke around the 489th squadron book on my site and you will surely find more stuff on Neafus.
