Looking for crewmember info

Today I was given a bag belonging to my late Great-Uncle, John R. Sampson. The bag seems to be his issue Bombardier's Kit. From the items in the kit it seems like he was assigned to 96 BG 338th BS. I'm really just wanting to learn more about his service.

Sirfig, Information I have so far is that there was a 2/Lt John R Sampson assigned to the 96th Bomb Group 338th Bomb Squadron. Listed in the book Snetterton Falcons as follows: New Crews Assigned for Oct 43 338th Sqdn Crew G92 2/Lt Edward A Martin P 2/Lt David A Nichols CP 2/Lt Casimir A Marczyk N 2/Lt John R Sampson B S/sgt Norris F Friedlander Sgt Joseph Napolitano Sgt Carl R Coney Sgt John J Palmer Sgt Alvin H Miller Sgt Rudy L Davis Berk Edition: There is mention in the book of a incident on the Dec. 11, 1943 mission on Emden Germany of two aircraft. Lt Ed Martin and 338th Crews plane were hit from above due to a bomb release malfunction. An incendiary bomb hit the wing of Martin's plane just rear of the #1 engine. Originally Martin thought he was hit by flak but he and his crew then saw the live bomb fused and all still on the wing. It had burst open and a jelly like substance was dripping from the case. German fighters made an attack on the plane and still did not set it off. Fortunately he is able to reach Snetterton and land safely. This may or may not be related to your uncle. Possibly one of the other members may have more information on this incident. Unfortunately no aircraft numbers were mentioned.

Wow this is awesome information. From looking around on this forum the Snetterton Falcons book seems invaluable. I did locate a partial listing of aircraft assigned to 338th BS (which includes the famous "5 Grand"). Is there any central listing or database that would list all of the missions or sorties undertaken by squadron?

I have confirmed the presence of my Great Uncle during the incendiary bomb incident during the raid on Emden. In addition to his journal entry referring to it, I also found this clipping in his things. According to his account, crew G92 was in a "borrowed" Fort that day. Normally their ship was "Patricia", which according to another clipping was shot up severely later on. Cpt. Martin was able to get it back to England on 2 engines.
