I want to build a model of a 118TRS P-51B .I have decals for McComas Mustang but was wanting to do one that is not as well known.Seen Lt. Kosa photo on this sight,which got me going with this thread.
Also is there a list of air and ground kills for this squadron.

Looks like a mixed bag of NMF/OD and OD/OD (with NMF and painted spinners) in the upper flightline photograph; I suspect 118th aircraft to be the NMF/OD (based on the lower photograph which is attributed to be a 118th TRS F-6C); credit line www.web-birds.com/ 14th/23/23.htm

Take what you like and leave the rest....

I found this in the book 'Chennault's Flying Tigers WWII 50th Anniversary.' There is a picture of McComas in a P51-D in the book if you are interested. I'll see what else I can find.

Andy-----they are all 118th with black-yellow fuselage flashes; they had various spinner markings. The lightning flashes were repeated on wing , tailplane and fin tips. (top and bottom usually ).
Tail nos. for the 118th were 550--600, McComas used 600. Serials were often removed.           Nick

I'm a new member to the forum but I think I can help you with the 118th TRS airplanes. My uncle, LtCol Phil Dickey, was the squadron's armaments officer and the squadron artist. He designed the "Black Lightning" markings and painted the airplanes for the pilots.
 
I currently have over 900 pictures of the men and airplanes of the 118th TRS. The squadron flew P-51B/C mustangs from about July 1944 until August 1945. Only the early Bs were painted in OD. The "Black Lightning" markings were not applied until early October 1944 and then to only a few airplanes as they were engaged in heavy combat.
 
I know you've seen some of the pictures that I added to the photo album. Let me know what you need and I'll e-mail you any pictures for your model.
