Lockheed F-5 loss in Ireland July 1944 - 02/02/2005 11:03:18 AM
Hello All,

I am looking up some of the basic details of a possible Lockheed F-5 recon aircraft which crashed in Ireland on the 20th of July 1944.

All I currently know is the above info, the location was a Clonsast Bog in County Offaly. The aircraft possibly was named 'Shoo Shoo Baby' and their is mention of the pilot saying he was was from a squadron called the 'Focus Cats'? This may be a squdron of the 7th PRG? (www.littlefriends.co.uk). i hope to visit the irish military Arcives soon to do some reasearch on their records there.

If anyone can confirm the above crash, with the name of pilot and the aircraft serial numebr, or at least with the correct direction to look in.

I'll be very greateful for any assistance. The information will go towards a web database I have of such crashes in Ireland 1939 - 1945. This deals only with crashes within Southern, Neutral Ireland. Not within the Northern Ireland jurisdiction. See the hyperlink below for details.

with regards

Dennis Burke

Hello all,
I've found the name of this pilot, he was F/O Iris N Dillon T-1964.

I've posted this elsewhere on this site and no one coudl trace him but I'll post it here just to finsih the topic off as much as it can.  Aircraft was 42-68216 Lockheed F-5B-1-LO.

He was flying from the base of the 10th PRG at the time.

Anyway, if it jogs any memories.

Hello Mike,
thanks for that.  I checked the NARA AAD but didn't feel I was sure i'd found him.  I'll look at it again.

I suppose that the AFHRA is the only place we can match the T-1964 number to an initial enlistment number.

Thanks again

Dennis

(I've just noted that the NARA links are linked off the research page!!)

Dennis:
When you go to NARA site for Enlistments..check  the reserve section,. thats where I found Dillons name..he must have been the service prior to WWII and was still on reserve status.

My father was in USN prior to WWII (1925-1931) & when WWII broke out he was recalled under reserve status, and actually applied for combat duty & got it..at the age of 35, he served in the Pacific 1943 till end of war.

My first posting on the new software1

Just add that Iris L Dillon was found by the AHRO to be on the rosters of the 10 PRG later that year after having been commishioned.

Just to close the known information for this topic.
