Little Bit of Help - 05/28/2009 12:18:52 AM ( #1 )
Just wanted to introduce myself since I am new to the forum. I am trying to do some research on my sutto grandfather. But let me give you a brief history first. When my parents purchased their 1st home back in the late 70s they moved next door to Mr. and Mrs. Harold H. Reynolds. When I was born in 1980 they were about "grandparents" age and had no children of their own. Everyday I would go over to their house and ask a million questions about the war. Harold passed away a few years ago but his widow is very dear to me as if she were my own grandmother(she even walked down the aisle at my wedding when the grandparents are seated).

A few years prior to Harold's passing I started to re-commit myself to reading up on WWII. Everytime I go home Helen will give me a little bit of was Harold has left from his time in the service. On this last trip she gave me the book by Chaplin Brown.

Harold was a S/Sgt waist gunner on the plane "ChuN ga lug" in the 535th. I know from looking around the site their were a few ships name chugalug. I am pretty sure "chungalug" was the name of his ship. I also know that they did complete their 25 missions and I believe they flew bombing raids leading up to D-Day.

If anyone recognizes his name, plane, or anything else that you think might be helpful. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Brad

Brad,
Foreman lists #42-30765 as CHUG A LUG belonging to the 535th BS: 381st BG.  Freeman lists the same plane but calls it CHUG A LUG IV. (I think the IV is an error).  The plane made a forced landing at Warminster, Eng. due to non battle damage on Dec 29 1943 with Ridley as pilot.  It was salvaged a few days later.
Regards,
Hugh

Thank you very much for the information.

Pardon my ignorance but what is Osborne, Foreman and Freeman?

I spoke with his wife tonight and she said that he never really stayed in touch with the crew after the war but any leads or pointing in the right direction would be great. Thank you for the information you have shared.

Gentlemen...My father LT James Robert Parham was a bombadier on Chug a Lug, although he suffered badly from post traumatic stress for most of his life and was reluctant to talk about it I most intrigued as to his history, any help would be greatly appreciated...he passed in 1980 greatly missed and  my hero God Bless America and the men who fought for her. Many Thanks. A grateful patriot son.
